Enhance your breasts with more volume and cleavage
Breast augmentation is a procedure that adds volume to your breasts by using lipofilling or implants. This procedure helps create an enhanced cleavage and volume. The implants are either filled with silicone cohesive gel.
During your consultation, Dr Kanhai will discuss your aesthetic goals and you can try on implant sizers to help you visualise your new look. The implants will be placed on top of the pectoralis muscle or, in some cases, behind the pectoralis muscle. The placement of the implants depends on a few factors, including the type of implant you choose, how much you are increasing the size of your breasts and the thickness of your own breast tissue. The scar will be in the inframammary fold. With lipofilling it is possible to enhance your breasts with approximately one cup size. Liposuction can be performed at the areas you prefer.
Dr Kanhai is highly skilled in all augmentation methods, he will discuss which surgical approach and scars you may expect.
What to expect
Pre-operative:
- Bring a list of your questions and concerns to your pre-operative visits. Understanding the expectations for recovery, based on your plan, is essential.
- You will need surgery referral letters from two qualified mental health professionals.
- You will be given guidelines on eating, drinking and adjusting current medications before the surgery can take place.
- Smoking is a relative contra-indication to subcutaneous mastectomy. Because of the increased risk of infection i.a., you are advised to stop smoking as soon as possible.
- After you have discussed which surgery technique is best for you, Dr Kanhai will draw up a plan for the operation.
- The anaesthesiologist will provide information on the anaesthesia, and doctor Kanhai about the type of the operation, and the follow-up procedures that might be necessary.
- Dr Kanhai will also ask about any risk factors for blood clotting issues (past deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism), bleeding problems (like haemophilia), or family/personal history of issues with anaesthesia.
- You will undergo a physical examination to ensure readiness for the operation.
Peri-operative:
- We will give you general anaesthesia through a vein in your arm. You will be asleep throughout the procedure and won’t feel any pain during surgery.
- Breast augmentation will be performed by an incision in the crease under your breasts. The incision will be approximately 4,5 cm long.
- After Dr Kanhai places your implants, he will stitch the incision with dissolvable stitches, that will naturally dissolve and will be absorbed by the body as the incision heals.
- Dr Kanhai might also insert drainage tubes. They will be removed the next day. Dr Kanhai will provide follow-up care instructions for the incision site.
Post-operative:
- As with any surgical procedure, there is a period of healing and recovery. The recovery time varies among patients.
- You need to wear a sports bra day and night for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, you need to wear it during the day for another 2 weeks. After 6 weeks you can start to build up sports and other strenuous activities.
- After 2 weeks you can start massaging the entire breast, including the scar tissue, with a vitamin E cream.
- Sensitivity of the nipples will take time to recover.
