Transgender Care

Individuals with gender dysphoria often describe having been born not in the right body. Plastic surgery is essential to align their bodies with whom they know themselves to be. The overarching treatment goal is “lasting personal comfort with the gendered self, to maximise overall health, psychological well-being, and self-fulfilment.”

Male-To-Female

Several surgical procedures are available for transgender women (individuals transitioning from male to female).

Surgical reconstruction can involve the creation of natural appearing breasts, genital reconstruction (vaginoplasty), facial feminization and/or an Adam’s apple reduction.

Breast-augmentation includes:

  • lipofilling
  • implantation of prostheses

Genital reconstruction includes a vagina and vulva that are both sensate and functional. This includes:

  • removal of the penis and scrotum
  • feminine-appearing labia majora and minora
  • a sensate neo-clitoris and clitoral hooding
  • adequate vaginal entrance width for intercourse
  • adequate vaginal depth

Dr. Kanhai is specialised in, and has developed, various techniques for the refinement of vaginoplasty which include:

  • creation of a working g-spot
  • creation of lubrication inside the vagina
  • hair removal before surgery is not necessary anymore, because during the operation Dr Kanhai will remove the hair follicles of the perineum flap.

Facial feminization surgery offers a wide range of reconstructive and aesthetic surgical procedures that reshape facial features to make them appear more feminine. Options include but are not limited to:

  • Forehead contouring
  • Lowering the hairline
  • Eyelid modification
  • Cheek augmentation
  • Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)

An Adam’s apple reduction (tracheal shave) feminises the appearance of the neck by reducing the prominence of the Adam’s apple. It is performed by making a small incision made in the submantel region.
